Tiger Woods Gains Momentum and Continues what has become a Summer Dominated by Nike Golf

-Woods’ Buick Open victory brings Nike wins to eight in 2009, including two major championships and three additional wins in the summer alone  –

With the addition of Tiger Woods’ 69th career victory at The Buick Open, it’s become a summer featuring one Nike Golf win after another.  Proof positives are the two major championship titles won by Nike athletes Lucas Glover and Stewart Cink in the U.S. Open and OPEN Championship, respectively, two victories by Woods, and another by Nike athlete Bo Van Pelt.  In summary, Nike Golf athletes have produced five victories out of the eight PGA Tour events played since summer officially began on June 21.  So far in 2009, Nike Golf athletes have won eight times, including six of the last 10 PGA Tour tournaments.

Woods, who infused positive energy in front of an enthusiastic crowd, came back from a disappointing first round by shooting 63, 65 and 69, respectively.  He is ranked third in all-time victories behind Sam Snead (82) and Jack Nicklaus (73).  At the age of 33 years and seven months, Woods reached victory No. 69 at almost seven years quicker than Nicklaus and eight years sooner than Snead.

On the Warwick Hills Golf and Country Club course, Woods averaged 303-yard drives with his Nike SQ DYMO driver.  Assisting him to a tied for sixth ranking in greens in regulation and a tie for second in total birdies, were his Nike ONE Tour ball and Nike Blades.
